My Friend Will Do Your Chores

April 21, 2009

A friend of mine is taking part in a project where he and a few classmates start up a business in 48 hours. I agreed to post his business idea below. I don’t have any roommates, but I could see this being invaluable for people who do. Name one person who hasn’t had a tough time with a roommate…yeah, it’s never happened. Even Buddha had roomie troubles.

The pitch:

5 Reasons Why ChoreCop is Made For You and Your Housemate(s):

  1. You don’t want to hike through a jungle of overgrown weeds to get to your mailbox. The mower has been neglected and needs some loving…
  2. You’ve eaten out of the same bowl for a week straight, and the cockroaches in the sink don’t look like they are going anywhere…
  3. Your toilet hasn’t been cleaned for two months, and each day it smells more and more like a sewerage plant…
  4. You decide that you want a life again and not have to cover for your slack roommates who don’t even know what a vacuum looks like…
  5. You open your oven to make a nice meal but your roommate decided to cook a turkey on a drunken 3am whim. He then passed out and never cleaned the mess. This took place three weeks ago…

Individuals in shared living environments face restrictions on privacy, communication and fairly dealing with undesirable chores. ChoreCop is a web application that sends reminder emails (and soon text reminders via mobile phones) for chores that need to be completed. We help say things impersonally and without confrontation. We are useful and to the point. People will respond to our actions and get the job done.

The title is misleading. I want them to actually do my chores.

What a great idea! I’ve already recommended it to someone. Now I just wish I had a roommate to blame when things got messy around my place…
