Pet Please #5: The Coffee Aisle

March 26, 2009

I’m not a coffee drinker. Floofy coffee drinks I enjoy; frappacinos, mocha latte chills (thank you, Cinnabun), that sort of thing. But coffee–no thank you. Tastes like dirt.

But it smells heavenly. If coffee tasted like it smelled, I’d drink it every day. But it doesn’t. So I’m left with this tantalizingly delicious smell and no satisfaction.

The one place on earth where you can take a full-body bath of the coffee aroma is the coffee aisle at the grocery store. This is, bar-none, my favorite aisle. All I want to do is stand there and soak in the smell. I bet you could eat any food in the coffee aisle and it would taste like that wonderful aroma. That aisle makes me want to cover the walls of my home with coffee bean dispensers even though I’ll never use the beans.

The coffee aisle very well may be the most comforting place on earth. Just thinking about the possibility of walking down that aisle makes me excited about going to the grocery store tomorrow to buy carpet cleaner.

Pet Pleases are the opposite of Pet Peeves. You can find the running list of both here.

You should check out Zabar’s the next time you’re in New York… You’ll never want to leave their coffee section.

You should go to a coffee shop. I’ve been to some so pungent the coffee smell stayed on my clothes after I left. There was one a friend liked to go to get rid of cigarette smell after he’d been somewhere smoky.

Come visit Portland, I’ll introduce you to the real world of coffee. I will sway you. But you have to come in the dead of winter.

Is coffee better in the winter?
