Summer Movies: July

April 27, 2008

Hancock (July 2): As I said the other day, Will Smith doesn’t make bad movies. After seeing the trailer, this looks like a great popcorn flick.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (July 11): I really enjoyed the collision of reality and fantasy in the first Hellboy, and I expect more of the same in this one. Plus, I really like giant monsters. This movie has plenty of ‘em.

The Dark Knight (July 18): This movie makes me sad and happy at the same time. Happy first. Happy because it’s going to be amazing. My only qualm about Batman Begins is that the action scenes are edited so quickly that you have no idea what’s going in. That’s actually a pretty big qualm, but everything else was great. Sad because Heath Ledger is gone from this world. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a posthumous Academy Award for his work in this movie.

Step Brothers (July 25): I don’t think I’ve missed a weekend yet. Will Ferrell will make me laugh on this one.

X-Files: I Want to Believe (July 25): What’s up with this title? I didn’t watch this show, but the Barenaked Ladies made sure I knew who Cancer Man was, so I’m in for the movie.

American Teen (July 25): This is the first documentary on my list. Watch the trailer. It kind of seems like any other reality show…but it also looks quite real, and quite possibly heartbreaking. I’m in.

Wild Wild West? The Legend of Beggar Vance? Freaking Hitch? (Full disclosure: I have not actually seen any of these movies.)

I keep forgetting that the new X-Files movie is coming out this summer. I loved that show, and I bet you’d like it, too.
